Shekinah – Help the Needy, in collaboration with Red Cross Limburg, has established the Grocery Support Project to provide targeted assistance to individuals and families who are temporarily unable to meet their essential grocery needs.

The project provides eligible beneficiaries with weekly grocery vouchers, enabling them to purchase essential food and household items at participating supermarkets. By offering flexible support rather than predetermined food packages, the project allows families to make their own choices according to their household needs, dietary requirements, and circumstances.

Our Purpose

Access to sufficient and nutritious food is a fundamental part of a person's well-being and dignity. Financial hardship can make it difficult for individuals and families to meet this basic need, particularly when income is reduced or unexpected expenses arise.

The Grocery Support Project provides short-term, practical assistance to help bridge this period of financial vulnerability.

Our approach is based on three principles:

  • Dignity – ensuring that people receiving support are treated with respect and are able to make their own choices.
  • Practical assistance – providing direct support that addresses an immediate and essential household need.
  • Empowerment – supporting people during a period of hardship while they work toward greater financial stability and independence.

How the Project Works

Through the project, eligible individuals and families receive weekly grocery vouchers that can be used at participating supermarkets.

The vouchers enable beneficiaries to purchase groceries that are appropriate for their household, rather than receiving a fixed selection of food products. This approach provides greater flexibility while ensuring that assistance is directed toward essential needs.

Support is provided on a temporary basis and is intended to help beneficiaries navigate a period of financial difficulty while working toward a more sustainable financial situation.

Partnership with Red Cross Limburg

The Grocery Support Project is implemented through the cooperation between Shekinah – Help the Needy and Red Cross Limburg.

This partnership brings together resources, community engagement, and support networks to help identify and assist people experiencing financial hardship.

Through collaboration, we aim to ensure that assistance reaches those who need it and that support is delivered in a responsible, respectful, and effective manner.

Who We Support

The project focuses on individuals and families experiencing temporary financial hardship who are unable to adequately cover their essential grocery expenses.

Beneficiaries are supported according to the project's eligibility criteria and referral process, in cooperation with Red Cross Limburg.

The project is intended as temporary assistance while individuals and families work toward restoring their financial stability.

From Immediate Relief to Greater Stability

The Grocery Support Project is designed not only to respond to an immediate need, but also to provide people with the stability and breathing space needed to address their wider circumstances.

By reducing the immediate pressure of grocery expenses, weekly support can help families manage their limited resources and focus on steps toward greater financial independenc

Our objective is therefore twofold:

To provide essential support when it is needed, while helping create the conditions for people to move forward independently.

Our Commitment

At Shekinah – Help the Needy, we are committed to providing support that is respectful, transparent, needs-based, and focused on meaningful impact.

We recognize that financial hardship can affect people from many different backgrounds and circumstances. Our role is to respond to immediate needs while treating every person with dignity and respect.

Through the Grocery Support Project, we seek to contribute to a stronger and more supportive community in which individuals and families have access to essential resources during times of vulnerability.

Support the Grocery Support Project

The continued success of this project depends on the support of partners, donors, volunteers, and members of the wider community.

Every contribution can help provide grocery vouchers to individuals and families facing financial hardship.

Together, we can provide practical support today and help create a pathway toward greater stability and independence tomorrow.
